My team consisting of Kira, Seamus, and I created a game called Sporadic Tactics which is a 2D pixel game. Seamus did most of the game's coding; Kira and Daragh focused on the Assets, mainly working on the Background and the character sprites, respectively. I mainly worked on UI elements such as the pause function alotugh not everything I made was used in the game. I made the assets for the Start button, the X button, Settings button, Quit button, Play button and the Pause button.
I was working on the code to make a starting scene where you could press the start button, and it brings you into the game or you could press a quit button that closes the game overall. The game, once started, will have a pause button that will cause the game to freeze and then bring up the game menu. You can use either the x button or the play button which will then unfreeze the game and hide the pause menu. I then used the code to make it so that the when the quit button on the pause menu ont he pause menu is pressed it will then bring up the start scene. If you press the settings button the code I used will then hide the pause menu, open the settings menu but still keep the game frozen while the settings menu is open. I made sure to make a couple different things for the settings menu although not all of them were usedd. I made sprites that look like the buttons used in the pause menu to show what the sliders represent, one for sound, one for music and one for sensitivity.
The code I used also allowed for the code to control speccific sounds or music inlcuded in the game and I also made a code that affects the mouses sensitivity although it was not included in the game. I found the Minecraft font which which I chose to use to represent the counters for the sliders. This also led to me needing a code to link the sliders and the counters so that the counter shows the number that the slider is representing.
I also went looking for some music to use in the game for the background, I was torn between a couple songs to use when I finally proposed 'Adventure theme #10' by BloodPixelHero on FreeSound.org
https://freesound.org/people/BloodPixelHero/sounds/727819/
I proposed this song because it had multiple different elements during the song which allows for the player to not get bored over epetitive music this song also loops pretty well and while being loud can quite easily be made quieter. The song is also long enough for it to not get boring after a long time.
I was really happy to work on this and I am quite happy with what I made for the game even if not everything was used or if it was particularly good. I also learnt a lot while working on the code which I was very happy with.
